Istinye Park is designed by DDG group. DG is served as the master Istinye Park architect, creating in Istanbul, Turkey a vibrant new retail and entertainment destination situated above a natural topographical “amphitheater” of master-planned mid-rise residential neighborhoods. The Istinye Park architecture consists of three conceptually and architecturally distinct elements – a grand central entertainment rotunda, an open-air lifestyle center and a glass-roofed indoor retail area – combined into one multifaceted omnicenter.
Master-planned on over 13 hectares, Istinye Park encompasses roughly 82,000 square meters of retail, restaurants and entertainment venues serviced by four levels of sub-grade parking – nearly 4,000 spaces – with available valet service. Istinye Park offers something truly special: a spectacular array of retail and entertainment possibilities in a unique urban lifestyle environment — Istanbul’s first true contemporary gathering space.
Istinye Park consists of three conceptually and architecturally distinct elements – a grand central entertainment rotunda, an open-air lifestyle center and a 3-level glass-roofed indoor retail area. Supported by a central exterior mast and suspension cables, a 100-meter-diameter hard-shell canopy encloses the Grand Rotunda, a dramatic arena-like space beneath the scalloped, segmented roof structure. LED screens, choreographed and sound lightshows and classic materials of marble, terrazzo and stone accented by glass and water come together to fashion the contemporary interpretation of a traditional Turkish market.
There are three distinct sections present in the building:
- The Grand Rotunda is a central entertainment space, consisting of a four level arena-like space beneath a scalloped/segmented shell. It is supported by a central exterior mast over 3 panoramic elevators. The 75-meter-diameter hard-shell canopy encloses a 9 m diameter vertically moving stage. The Rotunda also features kinetic water sculptures animated with lights and music.
- The Lifestyle Center is an open air town square incorporating a green central park and Fashion District- the glass roofed indoor retail area.
- The Bazaar area is distinguished from the rest of the center with its historical Turkish styling- each facade has been inspired by Turkish architecture and history.
Granted with many international awards, the Mall has around 300 stores, 270.000 m2 construction area, 87.000 m2 store area, 3600 parking slots and a wide range of brands. On the other hand, the neighborhoods and shopkeepers around the Shopping Mall are under constant threat of demolishment due to urban transformation. It is a microcosm of the socio-spatial segregation and sterile spaces in the new global urban order that is shaped by the consumption and consumption values. The spaces are segregated floor by floor based on income groups where the groups walk around, eat, shop without seeing each other and even have separate entrance doors.
